For Teachers

The Mission is set in the Himalayan Mountains of Nepal and focused on the most majestic peak, Mt Everest. The challenge is to rescue climbers from parts of the mountain above Base Camp, usually considered too dangerous to attempt, or clean up some of the rubbish left over from expeditions where the climbers have been too exhausted to carry it down.

By following this challenge students will be able to gain an understanding of the extreme conditions faced by a rescue helicopter in the Himalayas.

Using a Graphical map they can navigate through their adventure as if they are sitting in and flying in a Helicopter, and using the flight plan as a menu.

The research of Nepal and in particular Mt Everest is the main focus of the challenge.

Information and images will be followed by multi-choice questions to test their understanding. A first try success will be rewarded with 5 points, while further attempts will get 4, 3, 2, 1 points, depending on the number of attempts necessary. These points will be shown in the top right side of the cockpit and will accummulate automatically as the sections are completed. Once a section has been completed, it can be reviewed again but the score is set.

After each section Challenges, with links to websites, are available for further research and experimentation. These are also available under the Kids Adventure button on the main website.

The final mission challenge is to complete the machine specification questions.

A game is available under the R & R button which incorporates the theme of the mission to add interest and entertainment.

Quiz questions, crosswords and puzzles will be added under the Quiz Button on the dash board of the helicopter graphic.

Short slide shows and videos can be accessed using the Radar button.

News items can be found under the News button.
